Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. supports the establishment of an ASEAN Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence (AI), emphasizing collaboration, ethical standards, and inclusivity to drive responsible AI development in Southeast Asia.

He highlighted the ASEAN AI Engagement Platform, which unites public and private sectors to develop cohesive AI policies and promote responsible, inclusive digital governance across the region.

Marcos stresses the need for robust human capital development through education and digital literacy initiatives such as the ASEAN Talent Development and Mobility Initiative, preparing the workforce for future challenges.

He also supports the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA), focusing on strengthening regional digital integration and economic resilience by aligning digital infrastructure and policy.

The President called for regulatory reforms aimed at easing trade barriers and enhancing support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), including implementing a Unique Business Identification Number (UBIN) to facilitate cross-border business.

Despite ongoing global uncertainties, Marcos reaffirmed ASEAN’s commitment to stability, cooperation, and fostering a trusted, resilient economic environment through open and secure trade.

The ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) plays a crucial role in advising governments on business and economic issues, particularly AI, digital talent development, and trade facilitation to realize ASEAN’s vision for 2045.

Furthermore, the integration of enterprise blockchain systems is proposed as essential for ensuring AI data quality, ownership, security, and immutability within legal frameworks, positioning blockchain as a backbone technology for AI in the region.
